Abstract

|
A clinical study was made 128 patients of gastric resection and 7 patients of catheter duodenostomy
who received the operation at Chonnam University Hospital for 3 years from 1967 to 1970.
The catheter duodenostomy was utilized whenever the closure of the duodenal stump was unsat
isfactory. This occured in 5.6% of the resections.
There were no duodenal leakage in any of the patients and no cases of complication in those
whom a catheter was used.
In many patients, the duodenal closure was either unsatisfactory or impossible. When used pro
perly in such situations, the catheter duodenostomy can help reduce of extensive dissection of
duodenum and protect the duodenal stump leakage.
